In the past, Nike has made plenty of short films telling little fictional soccer stories, these include videos such as Winner Stays, which was released in 2014 prior to the World Cup in part as an advertisement for its new shoes and to inspire players that they can be their idols by simply wearing nikes. Recently, Nike released a new film titled: "Ronaldinho's message to football." Today I remembered the old Winner Stays film that came shortly before the World Cup and wondered if Nike has made anything similar recently, which led me to the newest clip from Nike.
This new clip features players such as Neymar and Ronaldinho who are well known for their flashy bits of skill, and arguably make the game so beautiful. The entire message is to be creative like these players, in the clip above it is quite clear that part of their success on the pitch is because of their enjoyment of game displayed with their creativity on the ball. Nike encourages its players to "play free", and do it their way like these star footballers. The subtle message is also thst Nike shoes help those players succeed in the ways they do.
I see this same technique with a lot of other high performance brands such as Adidas, Under Armour, etc. They make people believe that their gear (in this case their cleats) will completely unlock new skills never seen before in that person. It's interesting how they also tend to claim shoes, socks, etc. have special "technology" which will up the player's skill, when in reality they're just saying that to persuade them because the tech has little to no effect on their abilities.
